The Golden Bachelor breakup between Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist has left everyone scratching their heads. One minute, they were on live TV exchanging vows, and then the next minute, they announced they were headed for divorce. What the heck happened? Although Gerry and Theresa have been tight-lipped on the details of their breakup, Bachelor Nation alum Ashley Iaconetti has a theory.

Ashley weighs in on the Golden Bachelor breakup

Ashley spoke to Hollywood Life about the unexpected breakup. She suggested that the two senior lovebirds broke up because they simply got sick of each other. That’s easy to believe.

“I think they just got to know each other better and I think they got the ick from one another,” she shared. “I think it was mutual ick too.”

Of course, Ashley is no stranger to reality TV romance, so she also blamed the pressure of filming for their sudden split. Golden Bachelor finished filming in the fall of 2023. The two tied the knot on TV in January 2024. That’s not a lot of time to make magic happen.

“They had four weeks to literally live in the same space together before getting married and I just think that was crazy,” Ashley added, “and I think that you can develop an ick far after four weeks.”

Ashley isn’t the only Bachelor Nation alum weighing on this breakup. Tyler Cameron recently gave his opinion on the matter and blamed it on their long-distance arrangement. Theresa is from New Jersey while Gerry lives in Indiana. Tyler said they were both probably just stuck in their ways and didn’t want to compromise.

Regardless of why they broke up, it’s probably for the best that they called it quits just a few weeks after tying the knot. That should make for a clean split. And maybe now ABC can cast Theresa as the Golden Bachelorette. She’s definitely single!
